Connect With Community

About Us

Connect with Community is a subcommittee of the Latah County Democrats. Our goal is to improve and build relationships throughout Latah County but more specifically with our rural communities. As such, we publish a monthly newsletter highlighting local events and organizations.

For Democrats, voting in Idaho can feel frustrating and, at times, futile. Year after year we watch our neighbors cast their ballots for conservative politicians in local, state, and national races. Our electoral votes routinely benefit the Republican candidates, and Idaho remains stubbornly red without even a hint of magenta. It’s easy to feel like the only Democrat in school, church, and community - a single blue dot in a field of red.

If you live in a rural area, we especially want to hear from you! What would you share about your community? Please contact Jana Argersinger at argerj@gmail.com.

Community Highlight: Food for Latah Fundraiser

The mission of the Connect with Community subcommittee of the Latah County Democrats has always been both showing up and stepping up across Latah County.

Although the Covid emergency has ended, the needs of the Latah County food banks continue. Much of the emergency aid is no longer available and inflation has severely constricted people’s food budgets. Demands on food banks have risen 30 to 50 percent recently, and local groups predict that increased food relief will be an ongoing need for the foreseeable future.

For this reason, the Latah Democrats Connect with Community group is continuing its fundraiser to address food insecurity throughout the county.

Direct monetary donation is an especially effective way to assist because it enables food banks to spend on most-needed items, potentially at local stores. Check here for needed food items.

There are three options for donating:

1. Mail a check
to the Latah County Democrats at PO Box 9772, Moscow, ID 83843, with “Food for Latah” noted in the memo line.
2. Click on the ActBlue option above. All funds raised will be used to address food insecurity. PLEASE NOTE that donations to the Food for Latah fundraiser are not tax deductible.
3. Drop off products
at the West Side Food Pantry (730 W Pullman Rd, Suite 3, Moscow). Check here for hours and specific needs. In general, look for specials on canned foods, easy-to-fix meals, etc. and purchase a few extras. Personal hygiene items for women, diapers, cleaning supplies and pet food are also very much appreciated. Volunteers will take the donations out to the Latah County food banks. Please contact us at info@latahdems.org if you would like to be one of those volunteers!
